Professor Philip Yanos will provide an overview of the background/justification for addressing self-stigma among people diagnosed with serious mental health conditions, an overview of Narrative Enhancement and Cognitive Therapy (NECT) a group-based psychosocial approach to addressing self-stigma's effects that he co-developed, and engage participants in role-playing exercises to develop skills needed to implement a NECT group in their clinical settings.

Philip T. Yanos, Ph.D., is a professor of psychology at John Jay College and the Graduate Center, City University of New York and the author of Written Off: Mental Health Stigma and the Loss of Human Potential. He is an associate editor for the journal Stigma and Health. He is the co-developer of Narrative Enhancement and Cognitive Therapy, a group-based treatment which addresses the effects of self-stigma among people diagnosed with mental illness.
