Keto for Psychosis: Hope or Hype?

CE Hours 1

About this course

Ketogenic diets are gaining attention in the emerging field of metabolic psychiatry as a possible approach to treating psychosis, but the topic is also generating significant debate. Some point to promising early research and reports of remission, while others raise important concerns about oversimplifying complex conditions. In this ISPS-US webinar, Lauren Kennedy West, creator of YouTube channel Living Well After Schizophrenia, will share her lived experience of psychosis and how ketogenic therapy became part of her recovery, while Harvard-trained psychiatrist Dr. Georgia Ede will present the current research on ketogenic diets and brain metabolism in psychosis. Together, they will explore Lauren’s story, the emerging science, and the questions that remain, creating space for thoughtful dialogue about a topic that sits at the intersection of lived experience, clinical research, and ongoing debate.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe the emerging field of metabolic psychiatry and its proposed relevance to psychosis
  • Summarize current research on ketogenic therapy as a potential intervention for schizophrenia and related conditions
  • Discuss lived experience perspectives on using ketogenic therapy as part of recovery from schizoaffective disorder
  • Identify key questions, limitations, and areas of ongoing debate regarding ketogenic therapy in the treatment of serious mental illness
